Frequently Asked Questions

1. What does a gut health naturopath actually do?

A gut health naturopath helps identify what is driving your digestive symptoms, such as bloating, constipation, diarrhoea, reflux, IBS or gut inflammation. Treatment focuses on diet, lifestyle, herbal medicine and targeted testing to support proper digestive function and whole-body balance.

2. Can I still work with you if my symptoms aren’t gut related?

Yes, absolutely. You don’t need digestive symptoms to work with me. Many concerns such as acne, eczema, fatigue, anxiety, mood changes, sleep issues and hormonal imbalances are strongly connected to the gut through the gut–skin axis and the gut–brain axis. I regularly support clients with hormones, thyroid issues, fertility, immune function, stress, mood and skin concerns, even when their digestion feels normal.

3. My blood tests are normal but I still feel unwell. Can naturopathy help?

Yes. This is very common. Standard blood tests don’t always capture gut imbalances, nutrient deficiencies, inflammation, food reactions, nervous system stress or hormonal patterns. Naturopathy looks deeper to understand why you still feel unwell despite “normal” results.

4. What kinds of conditions can you help with?

I support a wide range of concerns including IBS, bloating, reflux, constipation, perimenopause, PCOS, PMS, thyroid issues, fertility challenges, fatigue, sleep difficulties, anxiety, stress, skin conditions, low immunity and children’s health issues.

5. What happens during a naturopathic consultation?

We discuss your symptoms, health history, lifestyle, diet and any previous testing. From there, you receive a personalised plan using nutrition, herbal medicine, lifestyle strategies and optional functional testing to address the underlying cause of your symptoms.

6. Do you offer online consultations?

Yes. Online appointments offer the same level of personalised support and are ideal if you live outside Port Melbourne or in surrounding suburbs such as Albert Park, Middle Park, South Melbourne, Docklands, Elwood, Spotswood, Yarraville, South Kingsville or Newport. I also work with clients across Australia and internationally.

7. What types of functional testing do you use?

Depending on your symptoms, I may use GI-MAP stool testing, SIBO breath testing, DNA microbiome sequencing, hormone testing, food intolerance testing, nutrient testing and heavy metal screening. These tests help uncover what standard pathology often misses and guide a more targeted treatment plan.

8. Do I need functional testing to begin treatment?

No. Testing can be extremely helpful, but it is not required. Many clients begin with a personalised treatment plan based on symptoms and history, and then add testing later if needed.

9. How long will it take to feel better?

This varies for each person. Some people notice improvements within a few weeks, while others with long-term gut or hormonal symptoms may take longer as the body heals and rebalances. Your plan is paced to suit your lifestyle and capacity.

10. Can naturopathy help with anxiety, stress or poor sleep?

Yes. The gut and nervous system communicate constantly through the gut–brain axis. By supporting digestion, adrenal function, nutrient levels and nervous system regulation, naturopathy can improve sleep quality, reduce anxiety and help you feel more calm and steady.

11. Do you work with babies and children?

Yes. I support children with digestive issues, constipation, eczema, immune challenges, food reactions, sleep issues and behavioural changes using gentle and age-appropriate care.

12. Which areas do you service?

I offer in-person naturopathic consultations in Port Melbourne, supporting clients from Albert Park, Middle Park, South Melbourne, Docklands, Elwood, Elsternwick, Spotswood, Yarraville, South Kingsville and Newport. Online appointments are available Australia-wide and internationally.

13. Is herbal medicine safe?

Yes. When prescribed by a qualified naturopath registered with the NHAA, herbal medicine is safe, tailored to your needs and supported by evidence. Your treatment is always customised to your health history and any medications you may be taking.
