Functional Testing

Your symptoms and medical history give us the best information, however specialised testing can confirm findings from the clinical evaluation. This may include testing your urine, stool, saliva, hair, blood or an iridology assesment. Having testing options at our fingertips enhances your treatment outcomes. We have access to functional pathology that can help us underpin the causation of your complaint.

Functional tests may include the following:

  • Food intolerance testing
  • Salivary hormones (male and female sex hormones)
  • Cortisol stress tests
  • Hair mineral analysis
  • CDSA (comprehensive digestive stool analysis)
  • Urinary iodine
  • Thyroid hormone profiles
  • Parasitology profile
  • MTHFR

Hair and Mineral Analysis

Food sensitivity, or food intolerance, is becoming increasingly prevalent in the Australian population and can be hard to recognise at first because the symptoms vary so much from one individual to the next. A convenient hair test can be done, your hair is not only a reflection of what’s going on in your body, but of your overall health too. Your hair is able to retain energy patterns which can be measured and used to assess your state of health, naturally.

Food sensitivities/ intolerance’s can be hard to recognize at first because the symptoms vary so much from one individual to the next. Many people live with minor or major symptoms of food sensitivities for years without ever really knowing what the cause is. Often there can be a several day time delay in foods ingested and reactions occurring. It can also depend on the amount and frequency of foods ingested. There is a long list of symptoms that can relate to food sensitivities and intolerance.

Do you experience any of these symptoms? If so, it may be worth getting a hair and mineral analysis.

  • Migraine and headaches
  • Asthma and shortness of breath
  • Fatigue and exhaustion
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Skin problems – eczema, psoriasis, acne and blemishes
  • Nasal congestion or hay fever
  • Mood swings and irritability
  • Depression
  • Memory loss
  • Weight gain
  • Auto-immune disease (Crohn’s, Hashimoto, Lupus, MS)
  • Behavioural problems in children, and ADHD

Urinary Indican Test

The Urinary Indican Test is an accurate and simple test used to measure the putrefaction of protein in the digestive tract by unhealthy bacteria. A positive test suggests bowel toxicity as a result of dysbiosis.

What is Dysbiosis?

Dysbiosis is the term used to describe an imbalance of the bacteria in the digestive tract often resulting from too much yeast, harmful bacteria, viruses or parasites. 70% of our immune system starts in the intestine, that’s right if you don’t have the right balance of bowel flora, you will not have a healthy functioning immune system. Dysbiosis alters your immune system, hormonal balance and the important homeostatic balance of the body. It can also alter neurochemistry leading to conditions such as depression, anxiety and irritability. Dysbiosis can be linked to a whole range of health conditions affecting every aspect of your health.

How Does Dysbiosis Cause Disease?

Once beneficial bacteria are destroyed by harmful yeasts, fungus, bacteria and viruses the process of dysbiosis and disease begin. This detrimental process is as follows:

  1. Disruption with the friendly bacteria which causes yeast and fungal overgrowth
  2. Putrefaction
  3. Allergy and Inflammation
  4. Malnutrition
  5. Liver stress
  6. Leaky Gut Syndrome

When we kill off the friendly bacteria in our intestines, it will lead to fungal overgrowth in almost all instances. When we consume sugars, grains and alcohol, the intestinal tract will become a putrid, infected environment. This is an ideal environment for yeasts and fungus. Then allergic reactions occur causing inflammation of the mucous membranes in the intestinal tract. This inflammation inhibits our body from absorbing valuable nutrients from food, which then leads to malnutrition. When these yeast hook onto our intestinal wall, they puncture holes in the lining of our gut wall allowing wastes, food particles, bacteria and toxins to “leak” into our bloodstream leading to a whole host of other health complaints.

Should I Have This Test?

Dysbiosis is often the contributing factor to many diseases and conditions and as such should be investigated as a possible cause in almost all health conditions. Another major reason that this test is so important is that unless your gut is healthy you are unlikely to absorb nutrition from your diet and nutritional supplementation. It is for this reason that we often treat the gut first; otherwise it impairs your ability to maximize dietary changes and nutritional supplementation.

Zinc Status

A simple yet effective test that involves swishing a liquid in your mouth and then detecting the taste response. I can tell in seconds whether you are Zinc Deficient or not.

Zinc deficiency contributes to so many diseases and is the cause of many other nutritional deficiencies, why wouldn’t you have it tested? The good news is that every client that books an Initial Consultation automatically gets checked for zinc deficiencies, for FREE

Why Test?

Zinc is important for so many enzyme systems ranging from liver function to DNA synthesis, serotonin production, sex hormone production, insulin production, stabilization of the histamine response, immune cell production and those that prevent free radical overload in your body. Just to name a few! Zinc is required for the production of hydrochloric acid that is essential to break down your food and extract all the goodness from it. Thus zinc depletion is the cornerstone of many nutritional deficiencies.

Zinc Deficiency Signs & Symptoms

  • Acne
  • Alcohol intolerance
  • Allergies
  • Amnesia
  • Anorexia
  • Brain abnormalities
  • Brittle nails
  • Decreased testosterone levels
  • Depression
  • Dermatitis
  • Growth failure
  • Hair Loss
  • Hyperactivity
  • Immune dysfunction
  • Impaired wound healing
  • Impotence
  • Loss of appetite
  • Loss of taste and smell
  • Low blood sugar (2 hrs after meal)
  • Low sperm count
  • Moodiness
  • Neuropsychological impairment
  • Poor concentration
  • Poor immunity – frequent sore throats, colds, sinus, ear infections, thrush, boils, viral infections Sleep problems
  • Sterility
  • Stretch marks
  • White spots on finger nails

Saliva Hormone Test

Saliva testing shows you how much of your hormones are in your tissues and are therefore active in your body causing the symptoms you may be experiencing as opposed to standard blood hormone tests, which assess total levels only.

Hormonal imbalances can cause many symptoms and health conditions.

If you suffer from any of the following

  • Unexplained fatigue and tiredness
  • Adrenal Exhaustion
  • Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
  • Blood Sugar Imbalances
  • Low Blood Pressure
  • Anxiety
  • Fatigue
  • Flu Like Symptoms
  • Depression
  • Mood Swings
  • Stress
  • Seasonal Affective Disorder
  • Insomnia
  • Jet Lag
  • Menopausal Symptoms
  • Anti-Oxidant deficiency

How is this tested?

Saliva samples are taken at specific times during the day; this involves collecting your saliva in small tubes, which can be done in the privacy of your own home. I will show you how to take the sample as well as inform you as to what times your need to take them. I will also provide you with an information sheet containing detailed information about how to collect the sample.

Once the lab has analysed your samples I will then receive the results and incorporate the results into your individualised treatment program.

Iridology is the examination of the iris, sclera, and pupil.  An iridologist looks for variations of colour and fibre structure to determine the constitutional strength of the physical body, as well as aspects of the personality, which can influence conscious and unconscious emotional patterns and determine information about a patient's systemic health

MTHFR is an enzyme that adds a methyl group to folic acid to make it usable by the body. The MTHFR gene produces this enzyme that is necessary for properly using vitamin B9. This enzyme is also important for converting homocysteine into methionine, which the body needs for proper metabolism and muscle growth and which is needed for glutathione creation . The process of methylation also involves the enzyme from the MTHFR gene, so those with a mutation may have trouble effectively eliminating toxins from the body. By taking a simple blood spot test and sending away for analysis we can determine if there is a gene mutation at the root of your health concern.

Why Test?

MTHFR gene mutaiton has been linked to infertility, lingering fatigue, fogginess, anxiety, sleep issues and inability to deal with alcohol and other toxins effectively.
